two massive AI models just dropped

had a wonderful surf this morning, some pretty good waves coming through.

It's another drop week for the AI models. They love to release them on the same day for some reason.

AI is advancing so quick.

OpenAI dropped GPT-6 Astra

Just after Claude Fable 5.1 was released, OpenAI dropped GPT-6 Astra on September 3rd.

The president of OpenAI, Greg Brockman, said "I think it's not unreasonable to feel that we are now in the AGI era," and closed with "Welcome to the AGI era."

It's currently only available to a limited number of organisations, but will become available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users in the coming days.

Have a look at the video OpenAI made. It's kinda cool.

It is currently the best model for computer use. It can basically do anything on your computer with insane speed and accuracy, while being extremely good at visual judgment, building games, 3D models and websites.

It is also smashing benchmarks. It got 97% on maths and 100% on ExploitBench, so it's basically very well behaved when it comes to hacking and misaligned behaviour.

For pricing, it's 2.5x the price of Sol and roughly the same price as Claude Fable 5.1. So definitely a bit pricey, as expected.

Now, is it actually worth using, and is it better than Claude?

Well, Fable 5.1 is still a little smarter than Astra. It's still better at agentic coding, OpenAI haven't overthrown the Claude models yet, but it's getting really close. I'm definitely gonna stick to using Claude for 80% of my work.

There's some really good things I'll probably be using Astra for when it comes out, like 3D design and computer / browser use. I honestly think overall, GPT is becoming a really good all-rounder for business work and a day-to-day agent, while Claude is an extremely smart builder for coding and workflows.

Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1

Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 on September 1st.

Fable 5.1 is estimated to cost 25% less than Fable 5 for typical workloads. For highly agentic work, it can even get up to approximately 45%.

Anthropic have improved the safeguards, so Fable 5.1 will stop doing that annoying thing where it blocks your response and switches to another model. It also avoids shortcuts that result in poor quality work. It's smart enough to fix the root causes of software issues.

The benchmarks are really good as well. its alot better at science, coding and computer use.

It doesn't even compare to the previous model GPT-5.6 anymore. But yeah, really just a nice cheaper upgrade.

Also this week...

Your Claude Code limits are 50% higher right now → it's a temporary boost that ends on 13 September, and after that they drop back down to less than you've got today. Use it while it's there.

OpenAI's next image model is coming soon → people are calling it GPT Image 2.5. Nothing official yet, but people have been running it in Arena, and the results look really good.

Anthropic open sourced a shopping agent → a free blueprint for building an agent that searches a catalogue, compares products and fills a cart, plus one for the shop owner side that handles stock and pricing. It won't place the order or charge the card, it hands that back to you.

Grok Bot got three new updates → you can connect it to X now, so it can search posts, read your timeline and check your mentions. You can share your whole bot with someone else as a template, which passes on its skills and routines but not your logins. And it can also buy things online using Link, Stripe's wallet.

💡 Builder's notes

The future of the internet

Okay, so things are starting to shift. As AI advances, people are starting to get their agents to do things for them. Right now, websites are built for humans, a person with eyes looking at a screen. But that's about to stop being true.

When an agent uses a website for you right now, it's the most unconventional way. Instead of being able to just execute, it's forced to click buttons and move around like a person would. It's horrible. If you've ever used an agent to go and do something on a website, you probably saw it. Extremely slow, takes a long time, and not very reliable.

There's a thing called WebMCP being built quietly.

It lets the website hand the agent a menu instead. Here's search, here's book, here's buy. No guessing, no screenshots, no messy page code. Google and Microsoft built it together.

I recommend watching this video with Greg Isenberg. He goes over it. It's a really good video.

As agents become more widely used, website UI is going to become basically useless. There's going to be a point where going onto a website to look at it yourself and manually click buttons just won't exist. Websites won't only need to be readable by AI, they'll need to be usable by AI to complete a customer's task.

The mindset shift shouldn't be "how can a human use my website?" It should be "how can an AI use my website?"

We are definitely going towards a future where everyone has their own AI agent, autonomously doing things over the internet on your behalf. Buying products, booking reservations. If a website isn't AI native, the agent probably just won't use it.

But, yeah, just interesting to think about. And stay ready for.

The most beginner-safe place to start. It never opens a terminal, everything happens inside the desktop app.

Starts from zero and ends with you building a personal operating system out of context files.

Video 2: The full tour of Claude

Broader, and about Claude in general rather than Claude Code. Settings, Projects, Artifacts, Cowork, Skills, connectors.

Watch it to know your way around the whole thing.

Video 3: The deep one

A six hour course on Claude Code and the concepts underneath it: context, skills, MCPs and the API.

Save it for when you're ready to go properly deep. It earns the runtime.

Video 4: My favourite

A podcast with AI with Remy. The three things to learn right now (context, tools and skills), then a walkthrough of his actual agent operating system.

Everything before this teaches you how to talk to Claude. This one shows you how the whole system fits together.
